Deep Storage and Negative Retrieval: Your Guide to Film StorageUpdated 8 hours ago

Initial Storage Period

When you drop off or mail in your film to Rewind Photo Lab, we store your processed negatives within our filing system free of charge for 30 days from the date of processing. During this time, you can collect your negatives directly from our store location without any additional fees.

Note: For customers using the Wollongong store, we keep jobs on-site for 45 days before transferring them to deep storage due to potential transit delays.

Voluntary Disposal Service (Opt-In)

For customers who only want their digital scans and do not wish to keep their physical negatives, we offer a secure Voluntary Disposal Service.

  • How it works: If you select the "Discard Negatives" option when placing your order, your physical materials will be slated for secure destruction.
  • 24-Hour Grace Period: Once your order is processed, you will receive an automated email notifying you that your negatives are scheduled for destruction. You have until 9:00 AM the following day to reply or call the lab to place a hold on your items if you change your mind.
  • Secure Destruction: After the 24-hour window, your materials are handed over to a certified secure destruction facility where they are permanently destroyed to protect your privacy. Once destroyed, physical media cannot be recovered.

Unable to Collect In-Store?

If you opted to keep your negatives but are unable to pick them up in-store as originally planned, we've created a seamless solution for you with our "Negative Return Shipping Request" service:

  1. Visit our Service Page: Go to the Negative Return Shipping Request page on our website.
  2. Fill in Required Information: Provide the exact name the job was placed under, your job order number, email address, shipping address, and contact number.
  3. Complete Your Order: The $10 charge for this service covers all standard shipping and handling costs.
  4. Submission Confirmation: Once submitted, you'll receive a confirmation email with the details of your return shipping request.

Deep Storage System & Retrieval

If you have not opted into our Voluntary Disposal Service and do not collect your negatives within the initial 30-day period (or 45 days for Wollongong), your negatives are automatically transferred to our secure off-site deep storage facility.

To retrieve orders older than 4 weeks:

  1. Use Our Form: Please submit a Deep Storage Retrieval Request.
  2. Retrieval Fee: A standard administrative fee applies when recovering negatives from deep storage archives.
  3. Delivery Method: Upon retrieval and payment of the fee, your negatives will be mailed directly to your provided address.
  4. Processing Time: Please allow 1-2 weeks for our team to process your retrieval request and ship your negatives.

Long-Term Storage Policy (Abandoned Work)

Please be aware of our strict policy regarding long-term abandoned storage:

  • 12-Month Uncollected Work Policy: Any physical items, film, or materials left uncollected for 12 months or more will be considered legally forfeited/abandoned. Rewind Photo Lab reserves the right to securely dispose of or destroy these items after this period without further notice.

Digital File Storage

  • 7-Day File Storage: Uploaded digital scans are stored on our server for exactly 7 days. Be sure to download them immediately upon receiving your link.
  • Correct Download Process: To download correctly from Dropbox, click DOWNLOAD then DIRECT DOWNLOAD to ensure you get the high-resolution files.
  • After 7 Days: Should you need to access your files after the 7-day period and they are no longer available on our server, the files are considered permanently unrecoverable. Rescanning of your physical film (if you still have it or if it is in deep storage) will be necessary to recreate the digital files, and standard scanning fees will apply.

Recommendations for Customers

  • Backup Digital Files: We highly recommend downloading and backing up your digital scans to a hard drive or personal cloud storage as soon as they are provided.
  • Track Your Jobs: Keep a record of when you dropped off your film so you know exactly when your free 30-day storage period ends.
  • Keep Contact Details Updated: Ensure we have your current email address and phone number so you don't miss important notifications about your order.
